Community card poker variants II
September 19th, 2008There are several home variants of community card poker. When a player opts for the Cincinnati game of community card poker he is playing a 5-card game where he is initially dealt four hole cards and one community card is placed on the table with face up. This is followed by the opening betting round. After this there are three more community cards dealt and three more betting rounds. At the end of the fourth round of betting, showdown takes place where the player with the most advantageous hand, formed from any combination he chooses to make out of four private and four community cards, wins. Some Cincinnati game variations restrains players from using no more than two hole cards, either specifying the use of exactly two cards or allowing him to choose playing two, one or none of them.
The Iron cross game of community card poker gives players a total of five hole and five community cards. The board is formed through five rounds, where each community card dealt is accompanied by a round of betting. A variation of this game allows a hole card to be rejected and another drawn after each player has been dealt his 5 hole cards, followed by the opening betting round. The board is patterned like a cross where the last community card is in the center and the preceding four on each of its four sides. The winning player has to make the best possible combination of 5 cards out of his hand-held five cards along with the community cards to be chosen from a set of three either horizontally or vertically placed. In one variation, the center card is a wildcard while in another, all cards of the same rank as the center card are wildcards. Yet another variant has only four betting rounds – first after dealing hole cards but before any community card, next two after left-right and top-bottom community cards and final after center card.
